Our story

Bastet, the jewellery, is a modern illumination of femininity delicately handcrafted and inspired by Bastet, the Ancient Egyptian Goddess. Originally depicted as a fierce lioness warrior, the later more familiar Bastet was the goddess of protection, fertility and women’s secrets. 

The great festival of Bastet was an annual celebration where women were freed from all constraints, casting aside inhibitions in one of the most lavish events of the year. Much like what the Goddess represents, the jewellery, is a manifestation of its simple form of delicacy with modern and clean everyday adornments. 

Each and every Bastet piece is passionately designed and handcrafted by the Artist, Dina Elkhouly. Employing a variety of materials and numerous techniques, Bastet will continuously evolve to birth pristine playful designs deep routed to intense heritage.

About the Artist

Egyptian-born Lisbon-based contemporary jewellery designer and maker, Dina Elkhouly brings Bastet to life with intricate handcrafted designs inspired by a smooth blend of her rich Egyptian and Arabic heritage, and the subtle vibrance captured from the details of many roads she traveled.

Dina has always been fascinated by the craftsmanship and intense detailing in the designs of ancient Egypt and the metalsmiths of old Cairo. The fascination evolved into a passion which she pursued, leaving behind a career in finance of almost 10 years spanning 3 continents.

Her pursuit started with jewellery studies in Egypt at the Design Studio by Azza Fahmy, the only contemporary jewellery school in the Middle East, and further advanced during her studies at  ARCO in Portugal as well as Hochschule Trier in Germany. She also holds a Masters of Business Administration from Pforzheim University, Germany.

Dina has participated at several exhibitions in Cairo and Lisbon, showcasing some of her early pieces and her latest contemporary designs and gaining appreciation and demand from seasoned jewellery collectors.

Tawasol for Developing Istabl Antar NGO (Tawasol Egypt) was founded in 2008 as an NGO registered with the Ministry of Social Solidarity to serve the low-income communities in three of Cairo’s informal slum areas: Ezzbet Khairallah, Istabl Antar, and Batn el Ba’ara/Dar Al Salam. In response to community needs in those areas, Tawasol has developed over the years an integrated community development approach combining education with vocational training and health services. In 2012, Tawasol launched its performing arts program in order to have a creative outlet for its students and develop their talents through theatre, choir, Egyptian folklore, and circus arts.

Tawasol Egypt’s products are made by low-income families living in slum areas and informal settlements in Cairo. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of our products are given back to the communities that made them, either as artisans’ wages or to help sustain community development projects. Our products are unique Tawasol designs inspired by traditional Egyptian arts and crafts, and they are all hand-made using locally sourced materials. We accept custom orders and can personalize certain items based on availability of materials. We can also prepare bulk orders with sufficient advance notice.

In order to accommodate more students and better serve the community, Tawasol was able to acquire a plot of land in Ezzbet Khairallah with the generous support of several donors, foundations and individuals to build its new community school. The new school opened in December 2020 and can accommodate up to 500 students including children with special needs from the neighboring areas. The new Tawasol school includes a multisports playground, a 150-seat theatre, cafeteria with a state of the art kitchen, a school library, an art room, a computer lab in addition to 12 classes, 13 workshops, and a showroom for Tawasol’s products. There is also a community health care clinic. Moreover, Tawasol’s new school is respecting the environment with solar panels and a green rooftop. 

Tawasol’s impact extends to the overall community. The NGO employs staff from the community and provides literacy and health awareness sessions to women and families. When needed, Tawasol rises to the occasion and supports the community during crises and natural disasters such as heavy rains and floods.

I spent my childhood exploring every texture, imagining every shape and creating with every material I got my hands on. As I grew older, my passion for arts and crafts only intensified. It became my way of expressing myself, of showing the world who I was.

 

But it wasn't until I realized the power of crafts in transforming a space that I truly found my calling. There's something special about walking into a room and feeling instantly welcomed, instantly at home. And I knew that I could create that feeling for others.

 

That's why I founded Earth'n Spaces. It's more than just a brand – it's a way of birthing life into a space, adding a soul to it with items calling our your character and reflects who you are. 

Each item around you is made of raw material, a matter gifted from our earth and that's why we call it EARTH'N SPACES.

Hiii everyone 🙋🏻‍♀️ My name is Sanaa, I’m basically an architect by day and a passionate day-dreamer in a parallel universe 😅. ln a nutshell “ I’ve always felt that I have so many opened tabs in my mind and somehow it seemed always increasing in numbers as you hop from one post on pinterest to another one” until one day I started using a weekly planner, and to be honest it didn’t take one year to be that attached to it. However, having a planner helped me visualize my thoughts & goals and being able to analyze when these ideas initially sparked. Moreover, it has helped me reflect monthly on my mini accomplishments through the year which surprisingly boost your self satisfaction bluntly and yet inspires to go further. 

This project is very close to my heart. As I started applying through user experience research on what’s crucially demanded in a planner from weekly spreads, to habits & tracker, to seasonal colors pages & monthly overview. In addition to this the perfect portable size (11.2 x 14.5cm) to fit smoothly in our daily adventure through the whole year.

Hi, I'm Dina Hani Ghazali founder of "GHAZALI", Ever since my father passed away and I wanted to do something to keep his legacy alive. Lucky I stumbled across a shoe designing course and from day one into the course I realized shoe designing has always been my long lost dream. It's when I decided to establish "GHAZALI".

To me it’s important to show what our local artisans are capable of and bring to life all the hidden treasures that exist in Egypt that people did not know about.

I work with passionate artisans, artisans who consider the work they do part of their identity, artisans who will never give up on quality. You will be able to unfold the passion that goes in every step in the process, every design is carefully handcrafted by talented artisans to create unique statement pieces, each design has a unique story that gets crafted through a lot of hard work, I design shoes to tell stories to make each design as memorable and unique as the lady who will wear them.

كنت بدور علي حاجة تكون بتلمع كدة و اقدر اغير فيها كل شوية و تديني شكل مختلف

و بما اني بحب الطابع العصري المختزل و الانيق

قمت بالعمل علي تطوير شكل فانوس رمضان لكي يتالق بريقه اكثر و اكثر في اي مكان يوضع به

فقمت بعمله من الزجاج العالي النقاوة وبيتحمل درجات حرارة عالية تصل الي 350 درجة و يمكن ان يوضع به فواكه مجففة او مكسرات او حتي شمعة لما بتنور بتعطي نعكسات رهيبة في الجمال لان عليه طبقة عاكسة و ايضا يمكن وضع حبل الاضاءة ليكون ولا اروع

I always search for rare and dazzling things, since the month of Ramadan is the most beautiful months,

When I am invited to someone, I search very, very much before I buy something

Originally, not every year, I will take a konafa or oriental sweets with me

I was looking for something that would shine so, and I could change it every time and give me a different shapes and scenes

And since I love the modern, minimal and elegant style

I worked on developing the shape of the Ramadan lantern in order to shine more and give me brightness wherever it is placed So I did it with high-purity glass ( Pyrex ) that can high temperatures, and you could put in it dried fruits, nuts, or even a candle when I enlighten by giving colorful reflections in the beauty because it had a reflection layer and also the lighting rope could be placed to be the most wonderful

Welcome to my store, I’m Amany, visual artist, art therapist and counsellor, I’ve created “Barah Expressive Art”, as a concept born from my deep-rooted belief in Art as an expressive tool that leads to the inner vastness “Brarah”. Barah Expressive Art has two artistic arms; one is expressive paintings; where the white space witness treasures of genuine feelings expressed in colors, shades, lines, shapes and movements creating unique paintings of different styles and moods. The second arm is Barah Expressive Art workshops where people are supported and encouraged to go through an artistic process to explore their inner vastness.

My story with painting started in childhood where I draw and paint but never believed I’m an artist despite my parents’ encouragements. Only twelve years ago this hidden passion was revealed once again, it grew and flourished to change my life and profession.  I started as landscaper then my art evolved gracefully to be what it is now. I believe authentic art never stop evolving, yet what have never changed in my creation is the sincere search for the vastness; for “Barah”.
